Your Role

We are seeking an experienced, team orientated, pragmatic and client focused individual to Underwrite new bridging and development finance deals. The ideal candidate will play a significant role in the BFS business, reporting and working within the Underwriting Team. 

The role will ideally suit candidates who have Banking/Mortgage/Bridging/development Underwriting experience, or Credit Risk/Compliance experience at a Bridging Company or similar property Lender. Alternatively, you may be a Quantity Surveyor looking to use your transferable skills within a finance Company.

 


Specific Responsibility:

  • Underwriting Development & Bridging Loan Applications – managing the process from offer through to completion, ensuring credit guidelines are adhered to.
  • Review and process Credit searches, AML checks and Client onboarding Applications. 
  • Review Valuation and Quantity Surveyor Reports.
  • Instruct and liaise with Valuers, Solicitors, Quantity Surveyor & Agents.
  • Liaise with our Solicitor throughout the legal process.
  • Report issues of regulatory concern to Head of Underwriting.
  • Attend weekly Portfolio review team meeting.  
  • Post completion management of development cases and drawdown requests. 
  • Work with Portfolio Manager to underwrite extension and increase requests.
  • Attend BDM weekly Teams meetings to discuss pending cases.
  • Embrace the principles of treating customers fairly and responsible lending in all decision making. 
  • Manage a caseload of c35 cases, which may fluctuate from time to time.

 


Other Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records and system information.
  • Focus on your own continuous improvement and identify ways to improve working methods.
  • Ensure a good understanding of Company policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines.
  • Holiday/sickness cover/supporting other team members as and when required. 
  • Support Head of Underwriting as and when required.

 


The Person – Essential Skills:

  • Ideally 3-5 years’ experience within the Development Finance sector/UK property finance or construction sector. 
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Focussed and self-motivated
  • Positive and pro-active attitude
  • Good organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlines.
  • Team player.
  • Remain focussed on meeting individual KPIs and departmental targets for quality, service, and volumes.

 

Desirable but not essential

  • Knowledge of FCA regulations
